Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have signed an agreement for the supply of electricity, as reported by the company Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS).
Узбекистан в 2025 году продолжит экспортировать электроэнергию в Афганистан.

The aim of the agreement is to strengthen energy cooperation between the countries and ensure stable electricity supplies to Afghanistan. However, the specifics regarding volumes, delivery timelines, and costs have not been disclosed.

The parties discussed the details of the construction of a 500 kV power transmission line that will connect Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. The transmission line will run from Surkhandarya in Uzbekistan to Pul-i Khumri, and then continue to Kabul.

The project, which was estimated to cost $100.1 million in Afghanistan as of July 2022, will provide Afghanistan with daily supplies of 24 million kWh, totaling 6 billion kWh per year. The length of the line will be 245.6 km, of which 45 km will be in Uzbekistan and 200.6 km will be in Afghanistan.

Following the completion of a detailed technical analysis, the project implementation will commence, although its timeline has been postponed several times.
