By the end of 2025, Uzbekistan will ban AI-80 gasoline.

By the end of 2025, Uzbekistan plans to ban the use and sale of motor fuel that does not meet the Euro-4 environmental standard.
До конца 2025 года в Узбекистане введут запрет на использование бензина АИ-80.

According to the project, gasoline of the AI-80 brand, which meets the Euro-2 standard, will fall under restrictions.

The introduction of this ban is linked to proposals received from a wide range of the public, international and local environmental organizations, the Ecological Party, and the Ministry of Ecology.

Additionally, starting from May 1, 2025, a ban on the implementation of new projects related to the production of asbestos, cement, sludge processing, and the construction of leather-tanning facilities and poultry farms is planned in Tashkent, Nukus, and the administrative centers of the regions.

A ban will also be introduced on the burning of coal without effective dust collection and gas purification systems.

The document provides for restrictions on the establishment of new plants for ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, production of glass with toxic impurities, and manufacturing of products using hazardous chemicals.

Enterprises engaged in the processing and incineration of waste classified as I and II hazard classes may also be prohibited.

The Ministry of Ecology, together with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade, as well as local khokimiyats, has been tasked with submitting proposals to the Cabinet of Ministers by October 1, 2025, regarding the phased relocation of existing enterprises operating in the specified industries and high energy-consuming capacities.

It is also planned to prohibit the use of fuel oil as a fuel for enterprises producing heat and electricity. Exceptions will only be made for emergency situations requiring coordination with the Cabinet of Ministers.

By November 1, 2025, the Ministry of Ecology is to develop a draft law that will impose obligations on manufacturers of plastic packaging and products in plastic containers, as well as their importers.

The law will require the organization of collection for used containers, payment of a recycling fee, or the establishment of collection and processing points for plastic waste using special equipment.

The issue of banning gasoline of the AI-80 brand has been under discussion for quite some time.

In January 2024, the Ministry of Ecology proposed to limit the use of this type of fuel and fuel oil in the capital, citing the need to improve air quality.

It was also suggested to encourage the transition to electric vehicles and limit construction as well as traffic movement.

At the end of January 2024, the President of Uzbekistan instructed Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov to consider the possibility of completely abandoning AI-80 gasoline by 2025.

In February, it became known that the Chinese corporation CNPC would modernize the Bukhara Oil Refinery with the aim of ceasing the production of this class of fuel. The completion of the modernization work, which will be carried out in cooperation with "Uzbekneftegaz," is planned within two years.

However, in September 2024, information emerged about the postponement of the complete abandonment of AI-80 gasoline usage to 2028.
