The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has included the film "Anora" in the list of contenders for the Oscar in four categories: "Best Picture," "Best Director" (Sean Baker), "Best Actress" (Maika Madison), and "Best Supporting Actor" (Yuri Borisov).

Among the competitors in the "Best Picture" category are projects such as "Brutalist," "Complete Unknown," "Conclave," "Dune: Part Two," and others. The winners of the awards will be announced on March 3 after a secret ballot by the Academy members.

The plot of the film "Anora" tells the story of a stripper with Uzbek roots, which has elicited mixed reactions from critics. Some have hailed the film as the best of the year, while others have labeled it weak and unworthy of attention. Despite this, the film received the "Golden Palm" at the Cannes Film Festival.

Interestingly, "Anora" is banned from screening in Uzbekistan, both in cinemas and on streaming platforms. The reason for this is the protests against the portrayal of the main character, which, according to the authorities, could negatively affect the country's image. However, experts believe that the film does not contain anything offensive to Uzbeks.
