Фильм «Анора» получил пять премий «Оскар», включая награды за «Лучший фильм» и «Лучший оригинальный сценарий».

The 97th Academy Awards ceremony took place in Los Angeles. The film "Anora," which was criticized by the Uzbekistan Cinematography Agency for its portrayal of the main character, a sex worker from Uzbekistan, won a total of 5 awards.

The film, directed by American filmmaker Sean Baker, received the Oscar for Best Picture, while Baker himself was awarded for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Mikey Madison, who played the lead role, won the title of Best Actress. "Anora" also took home the award for Best Editing.

In the summer of 2024, the Uzbekistan Cinematography Agency expressed its views regarding the choice of nationality for the main character.

This film surprised those who are interested in and sympathetic to Uzbekistan. The fact is that the image of the girl with Asian features, who played the role of a dancer and prostitute in the film, was presented as that of an Uzbek girl. This can be seen as a "disservice" to Uzbekistan,” the agency stated.

The agency also noted that the creative accomplishments of Uzbekistan, vigorous reforms, and the desire to "lay the foundations for a Third Renaissance" provoke envy or hostility from some individuals.

It can also be assumed that various international organizations and influential figures unfriendly to Uzbekistan are behind such an approach,” the Agency added.
