Abdumanon Abdurakhmonov, the head of "Umid Avto," has been detained on suspicion of major fraud.

Abdurakhmonov, who led several companies involved in "auto leasing" and promised citizens favorable conditions for purchasing vehicles, has been detained in a procedural manner. Previously, on January 6 of this year, while still at large, he gave an interview to Kun.uz under conditions of anonymity.

Currently, the Chilanzar District Court is examining a criminal case involving Abdurakhmonov and other individuals. The number of victims in this case exceeds 200 people.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Investigation Department, a criminal case has been initiated against him and other officials of the company under paragraph "a" of part 4 of Article 168 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (Fraud committed on a particularly large scale).

The investigative authorities have also brought charges under Article 188-1 (Illegal activities for attracting funds and/or other property) and other articles against Abdurakhmonov, as well as his accomplices Muhammadmusо Nigmonjonov and Ikhtiyor Saidov. The criminal case was sent to the Chilanzar District Court on September 3, 2024.

During the investigation, it was established that Abdurakhmon Abdurakhmonov was in charge of several companies, including “Umid avto,” “Orient avto,” “Business Orient auto,” “Orient auto hamkor,” “Umid auto xizmati,” “Umid avto companes,” and “Orient auto Toshkent.” To ensure a thorough investigation, the materials concerning Abdurakhmonov and other individuals have been separated into a distinct proceeding. Measures are being taken to compensate the material damage suffered by the victims.

The investigative actions are being conducted by the Investigative Department of the Tashkent City Internal Affairs Directorate. Court hearings on the case began in November 2024 at the Chilanzar District Court and are ongoing. Among the more than 200 victims are citizens who did not receive the promised vehicles or the refund of the amounts paid.

Previously, Kun.uz reported on the dissatisfaction of citizens affected by the activities of “Umid auto leasing.” In an interview on January 6, Abdurakhmon Abdurakhmonov explained the delays in vehicle delivery due to the mass closure of leasing companies in 2022-2023.

The judicial process is ongoing, and a legal decision will be made upon completion of the investigative activities.
