A man who insulted TV presenter Nilufar Sotiboldieva has been sentenced. The criminal case was heard in the Mirzo-Ulugbek District Court, presided over by Judge Bakhram Berdiev.
According to court documents reviewed by Kun.uz, citizen A.J., born in 1987 and residing in the Navoi region, insulted Nilufar Sotiboldieva via Instagram on June 30, 2024. In August of the same year, he was arrested on charges of fraud. As a result, the court session was held via video conference, with the defendant giving testimony from a correctional facility.
It was reported that in March 2024, Nilufar Sotiboldieva traveled to Thailand with her daughter and posted a video on Instagram showing them dancing. The owner of the account named “azimsherdjurayev” left an insulting comment under this post. Following this, the presenter filed a complaint with law enforcement authorities.
In court, A.J. fully admitted his guilt.
“I have always dreamed of having a daughter. Seeing the presenter engage in what I considered inappropriate behavior with her daughter, I couldn’t contain my emotions and left a comment. A week later, an unknown person messaged me from an anonymous account and asked, ‘Why did you insult me?’ Upon learning that it was Nilufar Sotiboldieva, I replied that I insulted her for actions that could negatively impact a child's upbringing,” he recounted.
The defendant expressed remorse and stated that he wishes to apologize to the victim.
However, Nilufar Sotiboldieva refused to seek reconciliation, noting that this should serve as a lesson for others. She requested the court to make a lawful decision and claimed compensation for moral damages amounting to 100 million sums.
The court found A.J. guilty of committing a crime as defined by part 2 of Article 140 (Insult in printed or other reproduced forms, including those published in media, telecommunications networks or the Internet) of the Criminal Code. He was sentenced to corrective labor for a period of 1 year with 10% of his salary withheld for the state.
