The driver involved in the traffic accident that resulted in injuries to five children, with two fatalities, was released from the courtroom. In its ruling, the court noted that the defendant was a "highly educated, working young man." A week later, the same judge sentenced another driver, responsible for the death of one person, to 2 years in prison, citing that he had "a secondary vocational education and was unemployed."
Kun.uz previously reported that both cases were presided over by the same judge — Ulugbek Ibragimov.
Following this, the prosecutor of the Tashkent region filed a cassation appeal against the verdict in the case of R. Mirzakhotamov.
As reported by the head of the Supreme Court's press service, Aziz Obidov, in an interview with Kun.uz, the criminal chamber of the Tashkent regional court annulled the verdict of the Yangiyul district court from November 11, 2024, and issued a new guilty verdict.
According to the new decision, Mirzakhotamov was found guilty of committing the crime specified in paragraph "a" of part 3 of article 266 of the Criminal Code (Violation of traffic safety rules or operation of vehicles), and was sentenced to 3 years in prison with a ban on driving for the same period.
The convicted individual will serve his sentence in a settlement colony.
