A visit to the unique round library in Markhamat.

In the Markhamat district of the Andijan region, there is the only round three-story library in Uzbekistan, housing over 30,000 printed books and more than 400,000 electronic books. The initiative to establish this knowledge center was led by entrepreneur Kobiljon Obidov. Inspired by the example of a public library in Turkey, he aimed to create a similar facility and completed the construction in just six months.

Inspiration from Turkey

Kobiljon Obidov shared that the idea to build such a library emerged after his encounter with a Turkish public library:

“In 2020, our president visited Turkey, where he participated in the opening of a library. Seeing this project on television left a lasting impression on me. I was particularly inspired by the fact that works by Uzbek authors were also showcased there. After that, I was determined to create a similar library for the youth of Markhamat. After discussing the idea with my family, we began construction in March of the same year, and by September, the project was completed.”

Free Services for Everyone

According to the entrepreneur, the library offers all its services free of charge. Four employees work on a permanent basis, and their salaries are covered by Obidov's personal funds. The library welcomes 200–250 visitors daily, providing access to a rich collection of books and comfortable reading conditions.

More than Just a Library

Obidov mentioned that over the last 15 years, he has actively developed various projects in trade, household services, medicine, and education. In addition to the library, he constructed a chess school, where champions of Uzbekistan and Asia have already emerged, as well as sports facilities for volleyball.

Investment in the Future

In response to critics who doubted the practicality of spending on the library, Obidov stated : “I do not regret a single bit of the funds spent on this endeavor. This is my contribution to the future of our country. Our library helps young people prepare for university entrance, learn, and reach new heights.”

Modern Conditions and a Variety of Literature

The library features books in Uzbek, Kazakh, English, Russian, and other languages. It has also created conditions for learning foreign languages. The project was developed with the experience of libraries in Germany, England, and Turkey in mind, and representatives from the Youth Affairs Agency, the Ministry of Defense, and the Union of Writers of Uzbekistan assisted in its implementation.

Kobiljon Obidov is confident that the achievements of his team are backed by the prayers of their parents: “My mother always sends me off with her prayers, and I see the results of those blessings.”
