The Senate of the Oliy Majlis has approved the implementation of a point-based penalty system for traffic violations in Uzbekistan, according to a statement from the press service of the upper chamber.

She proposes the imposition of penalty points for each traffic violation. If a driver accumulates more than 12 penalty points, their driving license will be revoked for at least six months.

The bill also introduces criminal liability for repeat offenses of driving under the influence and tightens penalties for violations during the training and retraining of drivers. Additionally, the requirements for vehicles using alternative fuels, such as liquefied gas, will be increased.

According to the provided data, last year in Uzbekistan, there were 9.3 thousand traffic accidents, resulting in 2.2 thousand fatalities and 8.9 thousand injuries.
