Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the former head of Lukoil.

The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held a meeting with Vagit Alekperov, the former head of the oil and gas company Lukoil.
Шавкат Мирзиёев встретился с бывшим руководителем «Лукойла».

The prospects for implementing joint projects in Uzbekistan's energy sector were discussed.

The primary focus was on issues related to conducting geological exploration, developing new hydrocarbon fields, modernizing infrastructure, and enhancing the retail distribution system for petroleum products. The parties also talked about plans to expand the company's operations in Uzbekistan.

In 2022, Alekperov was subjected to personal sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. In April, he stepped down as president of "Lukoil" and from the company's board of directors. The businessman stated that he made this decision so that the sanctions against him would not hinder the company's development.

"Lukoil" operates in Uzbekistan under production sharing agreements (PSAs) for two major projects - "Kandym-Hauzak-Shady" and "South-West Gissar." These projects are managed by "Lukoil Uzbekistan Operating Company."
