Shodmon Otobek was born in 1946 in the village of Shirmonbulok in the Andijan region. He graduated successfully from the Mirzo Ulughbek National University in 1969.
Throughout his professional career, he worked at the Republican Radio, the Tashkent State Institute of Culture, and in the newspaper "Literature and Art of Uzbekistan." From 1992 to 2003, he served as the chief editor of the newspaper "Khabar."
The writer published numerous books during his lifetime, including "Mirzakalon Ismaili" (1978), "Light on the Leaf" (1979), "Trials of Humanity" (1986), "The Happiest Day," "Blizzard" (1988, 2009), "Chess Forever" (1990), "Evenings of Shirmanbulok" (1995), and "See You on Good Days."
In addition, he conducted research on Mirzakalon Ismaili (an Uzbek-Soviet writer and translator) and published a book titled "Lessons of Mirzakalon Ismaili" in 2010.
Shodmon Otobek was also actively involved in literary translation, skillfully translating works by L. Tolstoy, M. Zoshchenko, V. Shukshin, B. Sarnov, E. Gika, and A. Nesin into Uzbek.
The works of Shodmon Otobek have been translated into Russian, Ukrainian, Kazakh, and Turkish. He was awarded the "Shukhrat" medal for his achievements.
