"Active preparations for this important event are currently underway," noted Ermekbayev in an interview with "RIA Novosti," adding that the summit will be held in the country that is concluding its chairmanship in the SCO.
The upcoming meeting is expected to finalize and approve a number of key documents. The format will be in-person; however, the final decision on this matter remains with the heads of the participating states.
In 2024, the SCO summit took place in Kazakhstan at the beginning of July and was held in person. The year prior, in 2023, the leaders' meeting was conducted via videoconference.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was established in 2001. Its members include China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, India, Pakistan, Belarus, and Iran. The main objectives of the organization are to strengthen mutual trust among countries, promote economic growth, and counter modern threats.
It is worth noting that a representative from Uzbekistan has taken the position of Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. This role has been filled by Batyr Tursunov, the counselor and envoy of the Republic's embassy in China.
