On January 31, online negotiations took place between representatives of the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan, during which issues regarding the mutual recognition of ID cards were discussed.
It was noted that these measures will simplify the movement of citizens and enhance cooperation in the field of migration policy.
"Travel convenience will be increased with the use of biometric ID cards, allowing citizens of both countries to cross the border without the need for a foreign passport," the statement reads.
Previously, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed (https://kun.uz/ru/news/2024/08/09/shavkat-mirziyoyev-predlojil-vzaimno-priznavat-id-karty-v-tsa) mutual recognition of ID cards among Central Asian countries. An identical system already exists between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Since September 1, 2023, citizens of both countries can use ID cards for entry, exit, movement, and stay within the territories of both states.
