Uzbekistan and Egypt will boost trade volume by eliminating barriers to commerce.

The first intergovernmental commission meeting between the two countries in 15 years was held in Tashkent.

The 7th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on the Development of Trade, Economic, and Scientific-Technical Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Egypt took place in Tashkent, reports the Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade.

This event marked the first meeting in 15 years since the last one in 2009. The Uzbek delegation was led by the Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, while the Egyptian side was represented by the Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Hania Al-Mashat.

The Minister of Investments of Uzbekistan expressed readiness to deepen trade relations with Egypt in the coming years by removing existing barriers. He also thanked the Egyptian side for inviting Uzbekistan to the International Book Fair in Cairo.

Laziz Kudratov highlighted Uzbekistan's interest in the participation of Egyptian companies in exhibitions scheduled for 2025 and in establishing digital trade platforms to facilitate cooperation between small and medium-sized businesses. Additionally, he supported the idea of creating an Uzbek-Egyptian Business Council to strengthen the private sector.

Following the session, the parties signed several memorandums and agreements:

  • between the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Environment of Egypt on technical cooperation in environmental protection;
  • between Ain Shams University and Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies;
  • between the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt and the Center for Islamic Civilization of Uzbekistan;
  • between Samarkand region of Uzbekistan and Alexandria province of Egypt to strengthen trade, economic, scientific, and cultural ties;
  • between the Agency for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry of Uzbekistan and ACDIMA.
