Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will be connected by a new railway line, set to launch in 2027. This development is expected to significantly boost the volume of export cargo transportation between the two countries.

The new railway line will also enhance transportation accessibility for two remote districts of the Turkestan region — Maktaaral and Zhetysay, connecting them with other areas of Kazakhstan.

The implementation of this investment project, which has a budget of 286 billion tenge, is being carried out by "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" — a portfolio company of the "Samruk-Kazyna" fund.

Currently, approximately 100 kilometers of rail track have been laid out of the planned 203 km. The volume of earthworks completed stands at 1.4 million cubic meters out of 9.5 million, equating to 15% of the total volume.

A total of 46 units of road construction equipment and over 70 workers are involved in the construction.

The company emphasized that materials from Kazakhstani producers will be used for the construction of the railway line. During the project's implementation, it is planned to create 3,400 temporary jobs, and upon completion, more than 500 permanent jobs will be established.
