Uzbekistan and the World Bank discussed energy efficiency and green technologies.

On January 27, 2025, representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan met with the World Bank to discuss the development of sustainable heating systems.
Узбекистан и Всемирный банк провели обсуждение по вопросам энергоэффективности и внедрения «зеленых» технологий.

During the negotiations, key issues regarding energy efficiency enhancement, the implementation of "green economy" principles in heating systems, and adaptation to climate change were discussed.

Possible forms of collaboration on programs aimed at improving energy efficiency in social and private homes, as well as in multi-apartment buildings with the technical and financial support of the World Bank, were also considered.

The World Bank presented an analysis of centralized heating systems in Europe, including Poland's experience with heat pumps and the outcomes of this program. The discussion touched on the modernization of centralized heating systems and the creation of new "green" jobs for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Uzbek side expressed support for cooperation with the World Bank on issues related to the elimination of heating subsidies, as well as the development of solutions tailored to the characteristics of building types and climatic conditions. An important aspect was the proposal to create a new tariff methodology for heating systems and to implement combined cooling and heating systems in buildings, along with improving the adoption of energy-efficient technologies in households.

Moreover, the parties discussed the development of a unified national program for energy-efficient small projects, the implementation of climate change adaptation strategies, and the modernization of centralized heating systems considering consumer needs. Special attention was given to the necessity of decentralizing decision-making, taking into account the diversity of regional heating infrastructures and the condition of buildings.

As a result of the meeting, it was decided to continue working on recommendations regarding the mentioned issues and to coordinate joint projects. The parties agreed to continue negotiations via videoconference and to develop comprehensive strategies for establishing sustainable heating systems in the future.
