On February 25, a press conference was held at AIMG featuring the leadership of the State Road Safety Department (SRSD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, focusing on the enhancement of the road safety system and amendments to the Administrative and Criminal Codes.
During the event, the head of the SRSD, Colonel Sherzod Ibragimov, presented some statistical data.
“In 2024, the number of vehicles in Uzbekistan increased by 600,000, while the population grew by 1 million people. Despite this, the number of traffic accidents is decreasing. In terms of the number of accidents (low) per 100,000 people, Uzbekistan ranks second in the CIS after Azerbaijan.
Throughout 2024, drivers committed nearly 20 million violations. Furthermore, the number of drivers who committed 10 or more violations in a year exceeds 38,000. These individuals accounted for 46% of all traffic accidents.
There are over 5 million registered vehicles in the country, of which 1 million 250 thousand have never violated any rules,” said the head of the SRSD, according to Kun.uz.
Additionally, according to the SRSD, revenue from fines in 2024 amounted to over 1 trillion sums (approximately 78 million dollars).
A journalist from Kun.uz inquired about what portion of these funds is allocated for road repairs and how the revenue from fines is distributed.
“The system of penalty points and the articles to which it applies have been outlined. Most of them are related not to roads but to compliance with regulations by drivers. I'm not sure this question pertains to our topic,”
responded Sherzod Ibragimov.SRSD employee Azizkhon Murodov clarified that fine revenues are credited to the budget, and their distribution is managed by the Ministry of Finance.
