In Bukhara, the relocation of over 1,800 large trees has begun, sparking dissatisfaction among residents.

The regional environmental management has announced that repair work has commenced on a 20-kilometer section of the "Guzar—Bukhara—Nukus—Beineu" highway, which will involve the relocation of 1,824 trees.
В Бухаре стартовала пересадка свыше 1800 крупных деревьев, что вызвало недовольство среди жителей.

A video has gone viral on social media showing uprooted large trees along the Kagan — Bukhara road. The footage reveals that local residents are outraged by the tree transplantation. Kun.uz also received complaints from citizens requesting the preservation of green spaces. “When we passed by the cut-down trees, there were tourists nearby. They were shocked. There are hardly any trees left in Bukhara, and now the remaining ones are being destroyed.” According to local residents, the trees are being removed to widen the road. “We urge you not to destroy them,” reads the appeal.

The ecology department noted that on the section of the A-380 road under repair, fruit and decorative trees are being transplanted in accordance with the law. It is emphasized that the work is being carried out based on the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution No. 464 dated August 22, 2022.

It has been reported that 151 trees have already been transplanted to the "Bokiy Bukhoro" complex and the "Yangi Uzbekistan" park, while the others will be relocated to available areas.

A Kun.uz correspondent reached out to the press secretary of the regional ecology department, Marjona Shukurova. According to her, the trees in the video are 15-17 years old, and the transplantation process is ongoing. However, questions about where the remaining trees will be transplanted, how experienced the company carrying out the work is, and what will happen to the trees in the future remain unanswered.

Recall that in May 2024, Kun.uz reported on the illegal transplantation of 30-70-year-old trees from Sayilgok Street in Tashkent to the Kibray district. Nine days later, the prosecutor's office finally confirmed that 53 trees had been illegally transplanted and initiated a criminal case.
