In Uzbekistan, birth rates and marriages have declined, while mortality rates have increased.

In 2024, the number of newborns decreased by 35,600 compared to 2023. The number of marriages dropped to 271,800, marking the lowest figure in the past decade. The average age at which men marry is 27.1 years, while for women, it is 22.3 years.

As of January 1, 2025, the permanent population of Uzbekistan reached 37 million 543 thousand people, reported the Statistical Agency.

Among the total population, 50.4% are men and 49.6% are women.

On January 1 of the current year, the population density averaged 83.6 people per square kilometer. The highest population density was recorded in Tashkent (6948.1 people), Andijan (804.9 people), and Fergana regions (613.1 people). The lowest figures were noted in Navoi (9.9 people) and Karakalpakstan (12.2 people).

Over the past year, Uzbekistan recorded 926.4 thousand births. In the same period last year, this figure was 962 thousand people. Overall, the number of births decreased by 3.7%.

The highest birth rate was observed in Surkhandarya, but the birth rate coefficient dropped from 30.9 to 28.9 per mille. The lowest rate was recorded in Karakalpakstan, where the birth rate coefficient decreased from 22.1 to 20.7 per mille.

The number of deaths in 2024 increased compared to the previous year: 174.4 thousand people died, while in 2023, the figure was 172.8 thousand.

The main causes of mortality were diseases of the circulatory system (57.6%), oncological diseases (9.4%), respiratory diseases (6.3%), accidents (5.8%), and digestive system diseases (4.1%).

During the reporting period, 271.8 thousand marriages were registered – the lowest figure in the last 10 years. The average age of entering marriage was 22.3 years for women and 27.1 years for men.

The number of divorces for the year totaled 45.1 thousand. This is 4.1 thousand fewer than in 2023, but 16.9 thousand (59.9%) more than in 2020.
