According to new amendments, parents or their legal representatives who involve children in religious education in violation of the law will face fines ranging from 5 to 10 basic calculation amounts (1.8 million sums to 3.7 million sums).
The changes have been made to the Law "On the Guarantees of Children's Rights" and the Code of Administrative Offenses. Parents are now prohibited from sending their children to unregistered or unlicensed organizations, as well as to individuals who lack specialized religious education or permission from the central governing body of religious organizations in Uzbekistan.
If the offense is committed again within a year after the imposition of the fine, the penalty will increase to 10–15 BRC (from 3.7 million to 5.6 million sums), or the offender may face administrative detention for up to 15 days.
