Video: Numerous burning spots have emerged in the M25 deposit area in Baysun.

In a video recorded near the "25 Years of Independence" gas field in Surkhandarya and sent to Kun.uz, flames can be seen erupting from the gas field. Local residents report that dozens of cracks have formed around a major well that was sealed off due to a gas leak, and these cracks have caught fire.

Kun.uz has received video materials recorded in the vicinity of the gas field "25 Years of Independence" in the Baysun district of Surkhandarya. The footage, captured on January 18, shows the emergence of a "fiery valley."

"Small 'springs' appeared around the closed well, from which gas is seeping, and then they were set on fire. We are told this is due to an oil leak, but it is difficult to determine for sure. However, we do not smell anything. The authorities have been silent for a long time, despite many promises," said one local resident.

Another local resident reported that controllers are stationed near each of these "springs."

"A person has been assigned to monitor each gas exit point. Gas is emerging from about 18–19 small cracks over an area of approximately 100 hectares, including 1–2 large ones," he noted.

Kun.uz reached out to the Ministry of Energy for comments on this situation. The press service of the ministry has not yet responded to the inquiry.

Work on the M25 field, which began in 2017, was halted after an accident on September 1, 2024. At that time, residents living in the area of the field were relocated.

Following a subsequent accident on September 17, the contracting company Eriell lost 4 employees.

In early November, Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov stated that it may take 2–3 months to resolve the situation at the field.
