In 2024, there were over 6,000 inquiries related to the economic rights of citizens, with 9% of these cases involving fraud.
“An analysis by the Central Bank revealed that in 463 instances of fraudulent online loan applications made in the names of citizens, financial damage amounted to approximately 15 billion sums,” – states the report.
It was found that 60% of individuals who fraudulently obtained loans posed as employees of the company “Click” or the Central Bank.
The criminals used their victims' personal information to secure online loans. In some cases, one citizen had received between 5 to 6 loans from various commercial banks.
As a result, investigative authorities instructed commercial banks that the citizens did not utilize the loans obtained and were recognized as civil plaintiffs. Despite this, banks continue to demand repayment from the affected citizens.
“The Ombudsman has filed 5 lawsuits in civil courts on behalf of the citizens, resulting in the loan agreements made with the banks being declared invalid,” the report states.
In a rare case, funds obtained in the name of a citizen were returned in their favor, and compensation for moral damages was also awarded.
