A woman tragically died in an elevator shaft—report from the scene in Riviera.

On February 3rd, an unfortunate incident involving a cleaner occurred at the Riviera shopping center, located in the Almazar district of Tashkent. A correspondent from Kun.uz visited the shopping complex to gather more information about the event. However, both the staff and management declined to answer the editorial team's questions.

According to the General Prosecutor's Office, on February 3, a 45-year-old cleaner entered the elevator shaft to clean the glass panels. While she was in the shaft, the elevator doors closed, and the cabin began to ascend. At that moment, the counterweights that move the elevator crushed the woman.

The information service of the Committee on Industrial, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety suggested that the cause of the accident could be violations of safety regulations. To clarify the circumstances of the incident, a correspondent from Kun.uz visited the shopping center, but the administration declined to comment, citing ongoing investigations.

According to labor legislation, in the event of the death of a breadwinner related to the performance of work duties, the employer is obligated to compensate for the incurred damages. This includes a one-time payment, monthly payments for lost wages, and compensation for additional expenses. The amount of the one-time payment should not be less than six times the average annual earnings of the deceased.

Furthermore, the employer is required to provide monthly benefits to the family members of the deceased breadwinner.

It is known that the deceased was from the Bukhara district of the Tashkent region. She had been working as a cleaner in this shopping center since 2020. She left behind two children.
