Lawmakers have approved a bill aimed at preventing torture.

Members of Uzbekistan's Oliy Majlis have approved amendments to the law on "Detention During Criminal Proceedings" in its third reading.
Депутаты одобрили законопроект, направленный на предотвращение пыток.

In particular, it is established that a mandatory medical examination of individuals will be conducted before their placement in a detention center, which will take place directly within the facility itself.

Additionally, the bill requires immediate notification of the prosecutor if any injuries or bodily harm are discovered during the examination of detainees.

The developers believe that the adoption of this law will be an important step in preventing unlawful actions related to torture.

Previously, Kun.uz reported that the responsibility for deaths resulting from torture in Uzbekistan will be intensified.
