During the meeting, Kuchkarov answered a question regarding why subsidies continue despite rising prices.
"First of all, our tariffs have not yet reached a level that fully covers expenses. Secondly, we import part of the gas," the minister stated.
According to him, the republic has no other option but to gradually raise tariffs to the level of self-sustainability.
"Regarding subsidies, the budget project for next year allocates 7.5 trillion sums for gas and electricity subsidies, while this year's amount was 12 trillion sums. This means that subsidies are gradually decreasing," he mentioned.
He also added that subsidies will continue in 2025-2026, but they should significantly decrease in 2027.
It is worth noting that new pricing rules for electricity and gas are intended to be introduced for the private sector in Uzbekistan.
Earlier, Kun.uz reported that the annual volume of gas subsidies in Uzbekistan was spent within six months.
