In 2024, the import of passenger cars totaled 74,525 units, which is 5,710 cars (7.1%) fewer compared to 2023. This is reported in the data from the Customs Committee.

The cost of importing passenger cars has also significantly decreased. While in 2023 it amounted to $1.90 billion, in 2024 it dropped to $1.27 billion (–33.2%).

Of the total volume, 32,928 cars were gasoline-powered, with imports declining by 36.3% (–18,771 units), and the value fell from $1.18 billion to $707 million (–40.1%). The share of gasoline cars in imports decreased from 64.4% in 2023 to 44.2% in 2024. The average cost of one car (excluding VAT and customs duties) decreased from $22,858 to $21,476 (–6%).

In contrast, the import of "green" vehicles increased by 1.5 times. If in 2023, 16,084 electric cars were imported, their number rose to 24,095 units in 2024. However, the import cost fell by 48.2%. The average price of one electric car dropped from $26,972 to $9,330. The share of electric cars in total imports increased from 20% to 32.3%.

The import of hybrid cars also grew: in quantity, from 12,300 to 17,480 units (+42%), and in value, from $289.9 million to $339.2 million (+17%). The average price of one hybrid decreased from $23,570 to $19,410 (–17.6%). The share of hybrid vehicles in total imports rose from 15.3% to 23.4%.

The decline in electric vehicle prices on the global market and improvements in their technical specifications are increasing interest in this type of transport. Additionally, Uzbekistan has abolished excise taxes and customs duties on the import of electric vehicles, which has been one of the main reasons for the growth in imports.

The countries from which Uzbekistan imported the most passenger cars in 2024 (over 11 months):

  • China — 55,703 units;
  • Korea — 11,266 units;
  • USA — 633 units;
  • India — 577 units;
  • Japan — 152 units;
  • Other countries — 353 units.
