The inspector died at the scene of the incident. According to the press service of the traffic police, the accident occurred around 1:45 AM on Islam Karimov Street in Navoi. Inspector Jasurjon Muhammadyov attempted to stop a Kia Sonet vehicle that was driving without a registration number and violating traffic rules.
The driver, disregarding the stop signal, veered into oncoming traffic and struck the inspector. Afterward, he fled the scene. The inspector succumbed to his injuries on-site.
During the operational investigative actions, it was determined that a 16-year-old named S.M. was behind the wheel, and the car belonged to his father. The vehicle has been located and impounded.
Currently, the prosecutor's office of Navoi city is conducting a pre-investigation check on the case.
“The 16-year-old teenager, who lacks a driver's license and is unfamiliar with traffic regulations, could have also injured other people. Unfortunately, the inspector, while performing his duty, became a victim of an offender when he attempted to stop the vehicle. Recently, there has been an increase in cases where adults hand over the control of vehicles to minors. This inevitably leads to tragic consequences. Therefore, we urge parents to prevent such situations and ensure the safety of their children and other road users,” said the head of the press service of the traffic police, Zoyir Yuldoshev.
Inspector Jasurjon Muhammadyov, born in 1993, was a father of two children and had been serving in the internal affairs bodies since 2017.
