President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on January 27, dedicated to the draft of the State Program developed in connection with the declaration of 2025 as the "Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy."
The program aims to actively promote green energy, enhance energy efficiency, and implement environmentally friendly technologies.
Energy has become a key focus of the state program: over three years, the country has built 16 solar and wind power plants with a capacity of 3.5 gigawatts and 35 small hydroelectric power stations. The share of "green" energy has reached 16%, and by 2025, it is planned to increase this to 26% through the commissioning of an additional 16 power plants with a capacity of 3.5 gigawatts, 5 hydroelectric stations (160 megawatts), and energy storage systems (1.8 gigawatts).
Special attention is being given to resource conservation issues. The President has instructed the implementation of energy-saving technologies in high-energy-consuming enterprises, as well as the development of industries with high added value. Enterprises that utilize environmentally friendly equipment will be able to obtain the status of "green entrepreneur," which will facilitate the search for new markets and enhance their ratings.
Greening remains one of the most important tasks. Annually, around 200 million trees are planted as part of the "Yashil Makon" program. This year, 18 new forestry enterprises will be established, and 123 million seedlings will be cultivated. The launch of the "Yashil Olam" platform will allow citizens to purchase trees online.
International organizations, including the World Bank and EBRD, are participating in the implementation of the program, providing funding to support low-carbon projects. By 2030, the share of environmentally friendly projects in Uzbekistan is expected to reach 55%.
The draft program underwent extensive public discussion, with the participation of 11 million people. More than 100 citizen proposals were taken into account in the final document.
