Uzbekistan has appointed its first ambassador to Iceland.

The President of Iceland, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, emphasized that the appointment of Uzbekistan's ambassador to her country marks a historic milestone in bilateral relations, resulting from the open and pragmatic foreign policy of our republic.

The parties exchanged views on the prospects for developing bilateral cooperation, with particular attention given to enhancing connections in the fields of trade, economy, culture, and tourism.

The Icelandic leader highlighted the mutual benefits of collaborative efforts in areas such as energy, high technology, digitalization, fisheries, tourism, and environmental protection.

It is noteworthy that diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Iceland were established on September 25, 1997.

Additionally, it is worth mentioning that in May 2024, Ravshan Usmanov presented his credentials as Uzbekistan's ambassador to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland to King Charles III.
