A representative from Uzbekistan has been appointed as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Uzbekistan, Tashkent – According to AN Podrobno.uz, a representative from Uzbekistan has been appointed as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The position has been filled by Batyr Tursunov, the counselor and envoy of the Republic's embassy in China.

According to "Dunyo," he began his new duties on January 1.

Tursunov is 50 years old. He graduated from the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies and the I. Muminov Institute of Philosophy and Law at the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.

He has been working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2005, holding various positions in the central office and the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Beijing. He served as the director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President and as the deputy director of the International Institute of Central Asia.

Since 2023, he has been the advisor-ambassador at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in China and the permanent representative at the SCO Secretariat.
