Timur Kapadze has been appointed as the head coach of the Uzbekistan National Football Team,
reports the press service of the country's Football Association.
“The Uzbekistan Football Association has studied and analyzed a number of candidates for the position of head coach of the national team, and has held discussions with experienced local and foreign specialists. Recommendations provided by the coaching council were also thoroughly considered.
Given that there is little time left before the decisive matches of the World Cup qualifying tournament, the association has chosen Timur Kapadze, who is well-acquainted with the team and its players, has played for the national team for a long time, served as both head and assistant coach, and achieved historic results with the Uzbekistan Olympic team,” the AFU statement reads.
It is noted that the Uzbekistan national team is currently undergoing a training camp in Qatar. Timur Kapadze has already joined the team and has begun managing it.
Since December 2019, Timur Kapadze has led the Uzbekistan U-19 team. From February to June 2018, he temporarily
served as the head coach of the Uzbekistan national team, and afterwards as the assistant head coach.
Timur Kapadze is one of the most decorated and well-known footballers from Uzbekistan in recent times. He is an eleven-time champion of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. He represented the Uzbekistan national team from 2002 to 2015.
In this role, he replaces Slovenian coach Srecko Katanec, who
left the position due to health reasons.
