The new Apple Watch Ultra 3 will feature a MediaTek modem, which will add support for satellite communication, writes Bloomberg.
Previously, this functionality was only available on the iPhone 14, forcing travelers to carry their smartphones into remote areas. Now, the need for this will disappear, potentially posing serious competition to satellite devices like Garmin's inReach.
Additionally, the modem will support 5G Redcap—a simplified 5G standard suitable for managing smart home devices. This could turn the Ultra 3 into a convenient tool for controlling household appliances.
Another significant addition will be the blood pressure measurement feature. While it won't provide precise readings, it will be able to alert users about potential hypertension and recommend seeing a doctor. There is currently no mention of hypotension in the description.
There is also ongoing development of a non-invasive technology for measuring blood sugar levels. Although its inclusion in the Ultra 3 has not yet been confirmed, Apple is actively testing an application for diagnosing prediabetes.
