The company Blue Origin, owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and a main competitor of SpaceX, has announced the cancellation of the inaugural launch of its heavy rocket, New Glenn. On the company's page on the social media platform X, it was reported that the reason for this decision was the discovery of an issue with the vehicle's subsystem that needs to be addressed.
Initially, the launch was scheduled for the night of January 12-13 from Cape Canaveral. New Glenn is Blue Origin's first rocket designed to deploy satellites into orbit. A successful launch could have marked a significant achievement for the company, which has yet to conduct orbital launches, unlike Elon Musk's SpaceX, reports the BBC.
CNBC states that according to mission plans, after liftoff, the rocket's first reusable stage was supposed to land on a platform in the Atlantic Ocean, while the second stage would continue to deliver the payload into orbit.
