The third patient has received a Neuralink brain implant. The company plans to conduct an additional 20 to 30 similar procedures by the end of 2025, as reported by Elon Musk, the founder of Neuralink.
“Currently, we have three individuals with Neuralink implants, and all of them are doing well,” Musk stated at an event in Las Vegas that was streamed on the social network X.
These devices may assist in the treatment of conditions such as paralysis and ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). These are experimental procedures that typically require a craniotomy to place electrodes into the brain tissue.
A year ago, Neuralink announced the implantation of its first patient, Noland Arbo.
With this device, brain signals are transmitted wirelessly to an application on a computer, allowing the implant owner to control it with their thoughts. According to the company, the technology aims to help individuals who have lost the ability to use their limbs.
